Health Care

Along with education, health care is considered one of the mainstays of Haven society and as such is paid for by the government. Hospitals and clinics are funded by the government, and fees charged by doctors in "private" practices are also fully reimbursed by the state.

The government considers the health and well-being of all citizens to be essential to the future aspirations of the republic and to the continued welfare of the human race. As a consequence, the government plays an active role in all aspects of health care, insofar as it ensures that each and every citizen has equal and fair access to whatever medical assistance he or she may require.

The government maintains several research facilities on the islands and owns an interest in the leading pharmaceutical manufacturer, PacifiChem. PacifiChem is part of the Westerly Group, of which Island Transnational Shipping is the leading component.
